Ambassador Liu Zhentang met with new Majlis Speaker Haddad Adel

H. E. Mr. Liu Zhentang, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Islamic Republic of Iran met on Wednesday, July 7th, with Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker Haddad Adel.

During the meeting, Adel referred to Iran-China ties as an effective factor in safeguarding peace and stability in the region and the world. He mentioned very long historical relations between the two countries and called for extending the ties.

Mr. Liu Zhentang expressed satisfaction of China-Iran bilateral relations in various fields and said China and Iran have been sharing same or similar viewpoints over many regional and global issues. He also said that Chinese people have great respect for Iranian literature, culture and civilization and the mutual influence of both cultures is obvious. Referring to mutual economic ties, Mr. Liu said Chinese companies are participating in many big projects in Iran including building dams, communications, energy and transportation. The economic structures of China and Iran are highly complementary. Mr. Liu expressed optimism in broader cooperation in the field of oil and gas between the two sides.

The seventh Majlis of the Islamic Republic of Iran started its function on May 27th, 2004. And Mr. Haddad Adel was elected the Majlis Speaker on June 6th. He is the first non-religious Speaker in the history of the Majlis. The Chinese Ambassador is the first ambassador he met with after his taking up of the post.
